“Discover County Clare's captivating landscapes, history, and culture on the scenic Burren Way and Cliffs of Moher tour.”
The word ‘Burren’ comes from ‘Boireann’, or stony district, and refers to an area of spectacular terraced limestone hills and hidden valleys that form the northern part of County Clare. With a vast area of 130 square kilometres (50 square miles), the Burren is one of the largest karst limestone landscapes in Europe. It is also known as ‘The Fertile Rock’ due to its capability to produce a wide variety of wildflowers. The Burren Way & Cliffs of Moher hiking trail encompasses the best of what the Burren area has to offer from the dramatic, rugged coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to the many prehistoric monuments and of course, its majestic limestone terraces. Our longest tours cover 120km (75 miles) of this magical and unique landscape. Along the trail you will discover many attractions from the remains left by the Neolithic inhabitants of the Burren to the rich heritage of early Christian churches and sites. Visit quintessential and picturesque Irish towns and villages that inhabit the Burren Way & Cliffs of Moher trail including Lahinch, Liscannor, Doolin, and Ballyvaughan. Within these locations, you will be able to taste some of the finest fresh seafood Ireland has to offer, while you immerse yourself into local culture, listening to some of the best live traditional Irish music the Emerald Isle has to offer. The highest hill, Slieve Elva, is a mere 344 metres above sea level, but the southwestern end of the Burren drops into the sea at the world-famous Cliffs of Moher – rising more than 200 metres vertically out of the sea. The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk was recently voted as one of the 10 Best Coastal Hikes in the world due to the magnificent and spectacular scenery that is experienced when walking along the Atlantic Coast. Added to these surroundings are hundreds of miles of rambling stone walls, a unique density of well-preserved monuments and buildings from the Neolithic to early Christian period, and a rich treasury of rare wildflowers.
