Mountain Craft Verified. This is the official line used on our guided events, optimised for safety and efficient movement in all weather conditions.
ROUTE OVERVIEW The Snowdon Horseshoe (Pedol yr Wyddfa) is widely considered the finest mountain day in Wales. This high-level ridge traverse crosses three major peaks: Crib Goch, Garnedd Ugain, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), before completing the circuit via the mighty cliffs of Y Lliwedd.
THE TERRAIN This is not a walk. The route involves the exposed, knife-edge traverse of Crib Goch, a Grade 1 scramble where hands are required for balance and movement. The ridge is extremely narrow with significant drops on both sides. After the summit of Snowdon, the route descends steeply via the Watkin Path before tackling the rocky peaks of Y Lliwedd.
CHALLENGE RATING Severe. This is a serious undertaking involving sustained exposure and technical scrambling. It is only suitable for those with a good head for heights and previous experience on steep ground. Do not attempt this route in high winds or poor visibility unless you are an expert navigator.
NOTE Due to the technical nature of the terrain, Mountain Craft operates this route with a strict 1:4 guide ratio. If you are unsure of your ability, check our profile to book a guided crossing with a qualified instructor.
