Mountain Craft Verified. This is the official line used on our guided events, optimised for safety and efficient movement in all weather conditions.
ROUTE OVERVIEW The Welsh 3000s is a legendary test of endurance covering the 15 highest peaks in Wales. This file follows the Precision Traverse line: a logical, linear South-to-North journey starting at Pen y Pass and finishing at Aber Falls. This avoids the complex detours of "record-setting" variations, offering the cleanest and most efficient line for a 24-hour challenge.
THE TERRAIN The route traverses three distinct mountain ranges: The Snowdon Massif, The Glyderau, and The Carneddau. Crucial Note: The route begins immediately with the traverse of Crib Goch. This is a Grade 1 scramble with serious exposure. You must be confident on technical rock before attempting this distance.
CHALLENGE RATING Extreme. Covering approx. 50km with nearly 4000m of ascent, this is widely considered one of the toughest mountain challenges in the UK. Success requires high-level fitness, scrambling ability, and navigation skills in the dark.
NOTE This is a linear route requiring vehicle support at the road crossings (Nant Peris and Ogwen Valley). Mountain Craft operates this as a fully supported 24-hour challenge with checkpoints and logistical support. Check our profile for event dates.
