Loop
Mountain Craft Verified. This is the official line used on our guided events, optimised for safety and efficient movement in all weather conditions.
ROUTE OVERVIEW Tryfan is often voted the UK's favourite mountain, and the North Ridge is the classic way to climb it. This route creates a loop ascending the famous North Ridge scramble to the twin summit monoliths of Adam and Eve, before descending via the South Ridge.
THE TERRAIN This is not a walk, it is a continuous hands-on grade-1 scramble. Tryfan is a complex maze of rock where the path is often indistinct. This file follows the optimal line to avoid the common error of getting cragfast in difficult gullies off-route. Expect steep rock steps, the famous Cannon Stone and sustained exposure.
CHALLENGE RATING Severe / Grade 1 Scramble. While the mileage looks short, the vertical gain is hard-won. This route requires a good head for heights and confidence moving on rock. It is not suitable for inexperienced walkers without a guide or in poor weather/visibility.
NOTE Mountain Craft operates this route with a strict 1:4 guide ratio due to the technical nature of the ground. Check our profile for guided dates if you want to learn the best lines with an instructor.
