The Leven Canyon Lookout Walk is a spectacular 1 mi looped trail that starts and ends at the Leven Canyon Car Park, Leven Canyon Regional Reserve, near to Nietta, Tasmania. The short but breath-taking wild walking trail within the Leven Canyon Regional Reserve is graded as Medium and usually takes around 45 mins to complete; with some challenging steep sections, bushwalking along a fern-edged track and rugged terrain involved, the far-reaching views from both the Leven Canyon Lookout and the Cruickshanks Lookout across the canyon and over Black Bluff are worth every step. The accessibility from the car park to the lookouts makes this a wonderful family-friendly trail for walkers of all ages and abilities. If the stairs in-between the lookouts are too challenging walkers can avoid the steep staired section by splitting the loop into two out-and-back walks from the car park. Alternatively, there is a lower level Leven Canyon Floor Track, with some steep challenging sections, that runs into the heart of the canyon for magnificent riverside and forest path views. (Children should be supervised at all times due to the steep stairs and cliffs.) There are toilets and picnic facilities near the trailhead, as well as wheelchair-accessible toilets. For those looking to spend longer in the area, there is also a campsite near the trailhead and dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
