The best parts are old stage roads, single-track trails, and the very helpful stone steps on the west side of the route. There are some roady parts, and there are some seriously boggy parts where you need waterproof, above-the-ankle boots. On the whole it is a thoroughly beautiful trail with many rewards, especially Stockghyll Force, the waterfall with endless changes in character! Starting at the Roman fort adds history to the mix . If you take public transportation, there's no need to close the loop.
