Starting near Racine County, Wisconsin, the Campus Park and Smolenski Park Loop is a delightful 3 km (1.86 miles) loop trail with no significant elevation gain, making it accessible for a wide range of hikers. To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transportation. If driving, set your GPS to Campus Park, located at 8500 Campus Drive, Mount Pleasant, WI 53406. There is ample parking available at the park. For those using public transport, the nearest bus stop is at the intersection of Campus Drive and Oakes Road, serviced by the Racine Transit System. From there, it's a short walk to the trailhead.

The loop begins at Campus Park, a well-maintained area with picnic tables, restrooms, and a playground, making it a great spot for families. The first 0.5 km (0.31 miles) takes you through a dense canopy of oak and maple trees, offering shade and a serene atmosphere.
Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including white-tailed deer, red foxes, and a variety of bird species such as woodpeckers and blue jays. The trail is particularly beautiful in the spring and fall when the foliage is either budding or changing colors.
The area around Racine County has a rich history. The land was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi tribe before European settlers arrived in the early 19th century. As you walk, you might notice informational plaques that provide insights into the region's past, including its agricultural history and the development of local communities.
Around the 1.5 km (0.93 miles) mark, you'll transition into Smolenski Park. This section of the trail is more open and features a small pond, which is a popular spot for birdwatching. There are benches along the way where you can take a break and enjoy the scenery. The park also has a disc golf course, so don't be surprised if you see players navigating the fairways.
The last 1 km (0.62 miles) of the loop brings you back through a mix of wooded and open areas, eventually leading you back to Campus Park. This section is relatively flat and easy to navigate, making it a pleasant end to your hike.
