Mountain Craft Verified. This is the official line used on our guided events, optimised for safety and efficient movement in all weather conditions.
ROUTE OVERVIEW The opening 26km stage of the Hiraethog Trail. This section takes you from the official start line in Pentrefoelas along the wild moorland edge of Mynydd Hiraethog. It offers expansive views across open country, skirting the villages of Cerrigydrudion and Llangwm before crossing the high slopes of Mwdwl Eithin (470m).
THE TERRAIN Starting in Pentrefoelas, the route primarily follows distinct tracks and rights of way across high farmland and open moorland. The stage culminates in a descent from Mwdwl Eithin to the B5105 road crossing just above Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr.
CHALLENGE RATING Moderate/Hard. While non-technical, this is a long day on the hill (25km) that requires fitness and navigation skills on open moorland. For Ultra runners, this is the "warm-up" section; for backpackers, it is a substantial first day.
NOTE This file ends at the B5105 road crossing (Grid Ref: SH 99139 49271), which is the designated support vehicle checkpoint for Mountain Craft events. Check our profile for guided challenge dates.
