The Walk
This rewarding circular hike showcases some of the finest countryside in East Sussex. Rolling hills, open farmland and sweeping views make for an enjoyable start, and if you're fortunate, you may spot colourful paragliders soaring silently above the South Downs.
Before reaching the day's main attraction, there's a welcome opportunity to pause at the Seven Sisters Country Park kiosk for a coffee or light refreshment. It's the perfect place to recharge before tackling the most memorable section of the walk.
From here, the route joins the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs, where a succession of dramatic chalk headlands delivers breathtaking views across the English Channel. The undulating cliff-top path is both challenging and immensely rewarding, with every crest revealing another spectacular panorama.
As the route turns inland, The Plough & Harrow provides an ideal spot to enjoy a well-earned drink or bite to eat before completing the final, gentle walk back into the charming village of Alfriston.
Whether you're visiting for the scenery, the coastal views or simply a great day's walking, this is one of the South Downs' classic routes and one that's easy to recommend.
