This is a short, 4.8km loop trail in Maroondah, Croydon North, which is a suburb in the northeast of the city of Melbourne, Victoria. The trailhead is situated about 32 miles from the business centre of the city.It is a very scenic route that passes mainly through residential areas with views of two bushland reserves and has an elevation gain of 268 ft. The terrain is either concrete paths or gravel when passing the reserves. It is a good family hike with several play areas scattered along its way, making great breaks for younger legs. The trail also gives access to Hochkins Ridge Flora Reserve, which has a large diversity of native fauna and flora, rather surprisingly, considering how close it is to a major city, but which makes an excellent add-on if you wish to expand the hike. The trail begins and finishes at Yarra Road, just near the junction with Charles Smith Drive, which has both bus and train connections from the city centre. The trail, which permits dogs, provided they are on a leash, is graded as Medium. For information on how we grade trails, please click here. Wheelchairs and pushchairs should also be ok. It takes about an hour and a half to do this trail although caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here.
