A 19.3 km out and back trail near St Arnaud, Nelson-Tasman, where you will either need to take a water taxi from St Arnaud or walk to Coldwater Hut to begin the hike. The trail follows the Hukere stream before clmibing steeply up to Angelus Hut, a 28 bed serviced hut, at 1650 m of altitude. Sitting on the shores of Lake Angelus, the remote hut is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Booking is required beforehand and note that in winter the hut facilities are reduced; there may not be water and or firewood. Snow and ice make this a hazardous trail in the winter season and even outside of this the terrain is rough and a head for heights is needed.
