For some of the best views of Sydney Harbour, take to the Bradleys Head to Chowder Bay Walk, a 2 mi point-to-point trail that starts at Taronga Zoo Wharf, winds around Bradleys Head and around to Chowder Bay, New South Wales. This beautiful trail can be walked in either direction or completed as an out-and-back to enjoy the fantastic picturesque views from both directions. This fascinating trail in the metropolitan area of Sydney offers the best of a city and nature walk; despite being just 15 minutes away from the city centre this trail guides you through the lush green Sydney Harbour National Park showing you the city’s highlights from a meandering bush trail. The route is graded as Medium (for how we grade trails, please click here) and is usually completed in around 1 – 2 hours. But how long it takes you depends highly on how many times you break to enjoy the views or sip a coffee on the route, with fantastic vistas from every angle this is a walk with much to see; from ancient trees, native bush and beautiful bays and wildlife, to views of some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks including the stunning Harbour Bridge and the Opera House as you walk along the water’s edge. Caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. Suitable for most ages and abilities it’s certainly a family-friendly trail that can be shortened or extended to suit fitness levels, although as the path is unpaved it’s not recommended for wheelchairs. To access the trail, you can drive and pay the $8 AUD NPWS fee per vehicle at the Bradleys Head and Chowder Bay car parks, or use public transport, with ferries and buses operating to and from the city; regular ferries leave from Circular Quay and head to Taronga Zoo in 12 minutes, whilst the M30 bus from the city takes you to the zoo in 30 – 45 minutes. Dogs are not allowed in NSW national parks and reserves for the protection and conservation of the park and its wildlife.
