The terrain is mostly sandy, gravel track with short steep hills, sections of steps, and some obstacles on the route. It is a well-signposted track but some bushwalking experience is advised. For how we grade trails, please click here, and caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here. At the north side of the Davidson Park picnic area, take to the Lyrebird track to start this walk, as it leads you along Middle Harbour Creek to reach Carroll Creek, along the Sydney Water Pipeline and then over to Bungaroo and the Stepping Stone Crossing. During the 50s and 60s, this trail was used for local sand mining, but today walkers take to the tracks for natural beauty and waterside tranquillity. This walk also takes hikers onto a section of the historic Governor Phillip Walk, named after New South Wales’s first Governor, the trail retraces the steps of his expedition to find farming land back in 1788 and to the expedition campsite at Bungaroo. $8 AUD per vehicle per day fee applies (at Davidson Park only) and can be paid via the pay machines or on the app. Dogs are not allowed in NSW national parks and reserves for the protection and conservation of the park and its wildlife.
