Short but sweet, the Bar Mountain Circuit is a 2 mi looped trail that starts and ends at the Bar Mountain picnic area in the Border Ranges National Park, in the North Region of New South Wales. Considered a Medium difficult trail, it has an 841 ft total elevation gain and is usually completed in around 1 – 2 hours, gently descending once leaving the trailhead through the impressive eucalypt forest to reach the far-reaching views of the Bar Mountain Lookout. Boasting panoramic vistas, views stretch out over the park’s spectacular green canopy and to Mount Barney, Mount Lindesay and Collins Creek – all of which are part of this beautiful World Heritage-listed national park. (For information on how we grade trails, please click here. And caution is advised on trail times as this depends on multiple variables. For more info, click here.) Awe-inspiring views, waterfalls, rainforest, mountains, rivers… The Border Ranges National Park has it all making a popular escape for locals and visitors for hiking, birdwatching, backpacking, camping and backpacking. For those looking to stay in the park, camping is available at two campgrounds, Sheepstation Creek and Forest Tops campgrounds, and booking is required.
