Located in County Wicklow, less than 45 minutes’ drive from the centre of Dublin, you will need a car or a bike to get to this secluded area not served by public transport. The trail is around 8 km and follows the mountain rim on one side and the lake level on the other. It is of medium difficulty, with a total ascent of 993 ft and can be slippery and muddy so proper hiking footwear is required. Also be aware that Lough Bray Loop trails are not signposted so be prepared before setting out. Dogs are not allowed on this trail and it is not suitable for youngsters due to the steep edges on the rim. Also it is not advisable to hike this in bad weather or poor visibility.
