A difficult 10km trail, the Slieve Foye Trail, near Carlingford, County Louth, Ireland, is a well-marked out and back with some challenging ascents and a total elevation gain of 1893 ft. The hike starts in Carlingford and climbs to the peak of (2106 ft), the highest of the Cooley Mountains and the highest in Louth. The terrain is mainly mountain track and grass path with some muddy, slippery sections during the wetter months. The views from the summit are beautiful, overlooking Carlingford Lough, out over the Cooley Peninsula and to the Irish Sea. Spend some time, before or after your hike, in the charming village of Carlingford, with plenty of amenities, including camping and cafes, as well as historical sites to visit in the quaint coastal town, with its picturesque medieval narrow lanes and small streets.
