(1000 ft) above the Atlantic Kerry Cliffs are the nearest landfall to the Slellings. The Sandstone bedrock was laid down around 400 million years ago when present day Ireland lay south of the Equator. After a period of mountain building and folding, rising sea levels separated the Skellings from the mainland. The immense passage of time, the Earth's upheavals, ice and the force of the Atlantic created the landscape of today.Puffin IslandIn summer thousands of 'sea parrots' nest on the Island's grassy top. They arrive in April, spending time at sea looking up at the cliffs as if gathering courage to land. After raering their single chick, they leave it in the burrow on the top of the cliff until hunger drives it to walk or jump into the sea. Photo Credit:N Chadwick
