“Explore Connemara's serene landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture on a captivating 9-day gentle tour.”
Our Connemara & West of Ireland walking tours explore Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Galway, as well as the most popular southern part of the official Western Way walking trail. This 100km (63 miles) long section, which connects the towns of Oughterard and Westport, leads through spectacular scenery in the counties of Galway and Mayo. It is an excellent introduction for hikers to the beautiful and scenic wildernesses of Connemara. On Inis Mór you will explore the unique and dramatic limestone landscape and coast of this outpost of Europe with its Irish (Gaelic) language and ancient monuments. (Please note that a visit to Inis Mór is not part of all itineraries.) The Western Way meanwhile provides walkers with breath-taking scenery, quiet wilderness and charming villages as they hike through the rugged Connemara region in the west of Ireland as well as the southern parts of the County of Mayo. Along the route you will encounter lakes, forests, wetlands, mountain ranges, rivers and waterfalls as well as a fjord and a holy mountain. And you will finish your hike in Westport, according to a number of surveys one of the best places to live in Ireland, which boasts great restaurants and famous pubs full of music and the ‘craic’.
