One of three, the Purple Route of the 12 O Clock Hills Looped Walks is rated as moderate-to-difficult, taking in woodland, small waterfalls (after heavy rain) and mainly follows forest track with sections of boardwalk covering the trail’s boggiest areas. The route has an elevation gain of 1584 ft, climbing to its highest point, the summit of Knockanuarha (1187 ft) with fantastic views on good weather days. The 12 O Clock Hills are part of the Slieve Bearnagh Mountain Range in East Clare, Ireland, a name derived from local tradition of telling the time by the position of the sun against the mountain peaks. Dogs are allowed on trail but must be kept on a leash.
