Rocky Mountain National Park is located in northern Colorado, USA, in the Rocky Mountains, about 70 miles northwest of Denver. The park is bordered by the towns of Estes Park to the east and Grand Lake to the west, offering visitors access points from either side of the Continental Divide. Established in 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park protects a pristine alpine environment that showcases some of the country’s most stunning mountain landscapes. The park features over 60 peaks that rise above 12,000 feet, with Longs Peak standing as the tallest at 14,259 feet. The park’s rugged terrain has a long history of being explored and appreciated by Native American tribes, European settlers, and modern adventurers. Parking facilities are well-maintained, but popular trailheads like Bear Lake and Glacier Gorge tend to fill up early, especially during peak seasons. The park offers more than 20 parking areas scattered throughout, though visitors are encouraged to use the free shuttle service during the summer months to reduce congestion. An entrance fee is required for all vehicles entering the park. The park's wildlife is abundant and diverse, with species such as elk, bighorn sheep, moose, black bears, mountain lions, and marmots commonly seen. Birdwatchers can spot golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and various songbirds. Rocky Mountain National Park features a range of flora across its different elevations. Lower areas are dominated by ponderosa pines, aspens, and Douglas firs, while higher altitudes are home to alpine tundra vegetation, including wildflowers like columbines, bluebells, and Indian paintbrush. The park’s notable features include Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in the U.S., scenic lakes such as Bear Lake and Dream Lake, and numerous waterfalls and hiking trails. While no direct public transport services the park, shuttles operate within the park itself, and visitors can access nearby towns via bus or private shuttles.
