Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is located in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, encompassing parts of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Nuwakot districts. It is situated just north of the Kathmandu metropolis, with nearby cities and towns including Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Nuwakot. Established in 1987, Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park has a rich history. It was once a royal hunting ground and has been associated with various historical events. The park's name is derived from the two prominent peaks within its boundaries: Shivapuri and Nagarjun. Parking facilities are available at the park's entrance points. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife species. Notable mammals include leopards, rhesus macaques, Himalayan black bears, and wild boars. Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park boasts a variety of native flora, including pine forests, rhododendron groves, and bamboo thickets. Common plant species include oak, maple, and Himalayan birch. Unique vegetation can be found in the higher elevations, such as alpine meadows and juniper forests. The park features several notable landmarks. Shivapuri Peak, the highest point in the park, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. The Nagarjun Hill is another popular destination, known for its serene atmosphere and ancient Buddhist stupa. Additionally, the park is home to several rivers and streams, providing opportunities for hiking and nature walks. Public transport is available to reach the park.
