Brisbane Water National Park is located in New South Wales, Australia, just north of Sydney. The park covers over 12,000 hectares and lies between the towns of Gosford, Woy Woy, and Kariong, on the Central Coast. Its proximity to the Hawkesbury River and Broken Bay makes it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The park was established in 1959 to protect its unique sandstone landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and rich Aboriginal cultural heritage. Numerous rock engravings and art sites within the park are attributed to the Guringai people, the area's traditional custodians. Parking facilities in Brisbane Water National Park are spread across several entry points, including at Girrakool, Somersby Falls, and Staples Lookout. There are multiple parking areas, and while some are free, others may have day-use fees around AUD 8 per vehicle, payable via machines or online. The park is home to a range of wildlife, with common sightings including swamp wallabies, echidnas, and lace monitors. The rich birdlife includes species such as the glossy black cockatoo, lyrebird, and the wedge-tailed eagle. In spring, the area’s creeks and waterfalls attract even more birdlife and frogs. Brisbane Water National Park's flora is typical of the sandstone landscapes in the Sydney Basin. It is characterized by dry sclerophyll forests, heathland, and pockets of rainforest. Common species include angophoras, banksias, and waratahs, with the latter producing vibrant red blooms in late spring. The park also hosts native orchids and grass trees. Notable landmarks include the scenic Somersby Falls, the Girrakool Loop Track with its Aboriginal rock art, and the picturesque views from Staples Lookout. Public transport is available, with train stations at Woy Woy and Gosford offering bus services to some park entrances, though most visitors prefer driving.
