Initial Ascent and Dog Lake

Starting from the Dog Lake Campground, the trail begins with a gentle ascent through a dense forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock. The lake is often frequented by local wildlife, including deer and various bird species.

Shellrock Lake

Continuing onward, the trail becomes steeper as you approach Shellrock Lake, located about 5 km (3.1 miles) from the trailhead.
