#### Orting to South Prairie Starting from Orting, the first section of the trail takes you through a scenic route along the Carbon River. This stretch is relatively flat, making it a good warm-up for the more challenging sections ahead. After about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), you'll reach the small town of South Prairie. Here, you can take a short break and enjoy the local amenities, including a few quaint cafes and restrooms.
#### South Prairie to Buckley Continuing from South Prairie, the trail begins to ascend gradually. This section is approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) long and offers stunning views of Mount Rainier on clear days. The elevation gain here is more noticeable, but the trail remains manageable. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer and various bird species. You'll also pass through dense forests, which provide ample shade and a serene hiking environment.
#### Buckley to Wilkeson The final stretch from Buckley to Wilkeson is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) and features a mix of forested areas and open spaces. This section includes the highest elevation gain of the trail, but the well-graded path makes it accessible. Historical markers along this part of the trail highlight the region's rich history, including its logging and mining past. Wilkeson itself is a historic town, known for its sandstone quarries and charming old buildings.
