The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a lush forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock. The initial 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) are relatively easy, with a gradual elevation gain of about 100 meters (328 feet). As you progress, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging, offering a good workout for your legs.
The trail is abundant with diverse plant life, including wildflowers such as lupines and Indian paintbrush during the spring and summer months. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including deer, marmots, and various bird species like the Steller's jay and the mountain chickadee.
Upon reaching Faraway Rock, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Cascade Range and Mount Rainier.
