Trail Navigation and Terrain

The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a dense forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock. The path is well-marked, but it's always a good idea to have the HiiKER app for navigation. About 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) in, you'll encounter a small wooden bridge crossing a bubbling creek. This is a great spot to take a short break and enjoy the serene sounds of flowing water.

Flora and Fauna

As you continue, the trail becomes slightly steeper, gaining elevation as you approach the 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) mark. Here, the forest opens up to reveal a meadow filled with wildflowers during the spring and summer months. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including black-tailed deer and various bird species such as the Steller's jay and the northern flicker.

Historical Significance

Around the 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) point, you'll come across remnants of an old logging camp from the early 20th century. This area was once bustling with activity as loggers harvested the rich timber resources of the region. Today, only a few rusted tools and the foundations of old cabins remain, offering a glimpse into the past.

Reaching Wobbly Lake

The final stretch of the trail leads you to Wobbly Lake, a pristine alpine lake surrounded by towering evergreens. The lake's name comes from the slightly uneven terrain around its shores, which can be a bit tricky to navigate. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for a refreshing dip, but be mindful of the chilly temperatures.

Return Journey

After soaking in the beauty of Wobbly Lake, retrace your steps back to the trailhead. The descent is much easier, allowing you to enjoy the scenery from a different perspective. Make sure to leave no trace and pack out all your trash to preserve the natural beauty of the area for future hikers.
