As you start your hike, you'll be greeted by lush forest surroundings, primarily composed of Douglas fir, western red cedar, and bigleaf maple trees. The region around Battle Ground Lake has historical importance. The name "Battle Ground" originates from a skirmish that took place in the 1850s between the Klickitat tribe and settlers.
