The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a dense forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock. The initial 1 km (0.6 miles) is relatively easy, allowing you to acclimate to the surroundings. As you continue, the trail becomes steeper, gaining most of its elevation in the next 1.5 km (0.9 miles).

Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including black-tailed deer, marmots, and a variety of bird species such as the Steller's jay and the northern flicker. It's also not uncommon to spot signs of black bears, so be sure to carry bear spray and know how to use it.

The trail itself was used by early settlers and loggers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, adding a layer of historical significance to your hike.
For navigation, it's highly recommended to use the HiiKER app, which provides detailed maps and real-time updates. This will ensure you stay on the correct path and can easily find your way back.
The final stretch of the trail leads you to Lone Peak, where you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Cascade Range. This is the perfect spot to take in the natural beauty, snap some photos, and enjoy a well-deserved rest before heading back the way you came.
Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate clothing for changing weather conditions. Hiking boots with good traction are recommended due to the steep and sometimes rocky terrain.
