Trail To Skylight Arch

Getting There

From Kanab, take US-89 south for about 10 miles until you reach the turnoff for Johnson Canyon Road. Follow Johnson Canyon Road for approximately 5 miles until you reach the trailhead parking area. For those relying on public transport, the nearest significant landmark is Kanab, where you can find local shuttle services or taxis to take you to the trailhead.

Trail Navigation

The Hike

The trail begins with a gentle ascent through a sandy wash, surrounded by the characteristic red rock formations of the region. As you progress, the terrain becomes rockier, and you will start to gain elevation. About 1 km (0.62 miles) into the hike, you will encounter a series of switchbacks that will take you up a steep incline, contributing significantly to the 100 meters (328 feet) of elevation gain.

Landmarks and Nature

Approximately 1.5 km (0.93 miles) from the trailhead, you will come across a notable rock formation known as "The Sentinel." This towering structure is a great spot for a short break and some photos. Continuing on, the trail levels out somewhat, offering panoramic views of the surrounding canyons and mesas.

Skylight Arch

At around the 2.5 km (1.55 miles) mark, you will reach Skylight Arch. This natural arch is a stunning geological feature, with a large opening that frames the sky beautifully.
