To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transport. If driving, head towards Grand County, Utah, and look for parking near the trailhead. For those using public transport, the nearest significant landmark is Moab, Utah. From Moab, you can take a local shuttle or taxi service to the trailhead.
The trail begins with a gentle ascent, allowing you to ease into the hike. As you progress, the terrain becomes more varied, featuring a mix of rocky paths and sandy stretches. The initial 5 km (3.1 miles) will take you through a series of small canyons and open desert landscapes, offering stunning views of the surrounding mesas and buttes.
Around the 10 km (6.2 miles) mark, you'll encounter the Red Slot, a narrow, winding canyon that is one of the highlights of this trail. The canyon walls here are strikingly red, and the slot itself is a marvel of natural erosion. Be prepared for some scrambling as you navigate through this section.
