ROUTE OVERVIEW The Rhinogydd 700s is widely regarded as the toughest and most uncompromising day walk in Eryri. This ambitious 20km circular route tackles the four 700-metre peaks of the range: Rhinog Fawr, Rhinog Fach, Y Llethr, and Diffwys. It is a journey into the "Badlands" of Wales—a landscape of prehistoric savagery and silence that few casual walkers ever experience.
THE TERRAIN Legendary for its difficulty. The Rhinogydd are defined by deep heather, pathless broken ground, and rocky steps that require constant concentration. Unlike the groomed trails of Snowdon, this is raw mountain territory. The route involves 1500m of ascent, but the nature of the ground makes it feel significantly more.
CHALLENGE RATING Severe / Hard. This is a test of physical resilience and micro-navigation. The terrain is "heavy going" and progress is often slower than expected. It is suitable only for those with high fitness and confidence on rough, pathless ground.
NOTE This is a true wilderness experience. Mountain Craft uses this route to teach advanced movement skills on broken ground. Check our profile for open group dates if you want to tackle this notoriously difficult range with professional support.
