Point to Point
A scenic walk from Middleton-in-Teesdale into the old lead-mining landscape of Hudeshope, following paths and tracks north towards Marlbeck Lead Mine. The route passes through open countryside beside Hudeshope Beck before reaching the surviving nineteenth-century mine shop, historic level entrance and surrounding mine workings. Marlbeck is part of a much wider landscape of old levels, shafts, spoil heaps and hushes which once connected with the mines around Lodge Syke and Hudeshope. The ground can be wet and uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The mine remains should be viewed from outside and old mine entrances, shafts and unstable ground avoided.
