Loop
A beautiful 6.7 km loop around Upper and Lower Lough Bray in the Wicklow Mountains National Park. Starting from the Quarry Car Park on the Old Military Road, this clockwise route climbs above Upper Lough Bray before reaching Eagle’s Crag, one of the best viewpoints on the hike.
From the ridge, there are spectacular views over both lakes, Lough Bray House, the surrounding Wicklow Mountains, the Sugar Loaf, and the Irish Sea on a clear day. The route then continues around Lower Lough Bray before returning along the lakes hore towards Upper Lough Bray and back to the car park.
The walk took me 2 hours 55 minutes including breaks and photo stops. Conditions were dry and sunny, but there were still a few boggy sections, so hiking boots are recommended. Parking is limited at the Quarry Car Park, especially on weekends, so arrive early and park responsibly.
Moderate hike with open mountain terrain, uneven paths, boggy patches, lake views, and a short road section. A fantastic scenic hike near Dublin on a clear day.
