The Mamores are almost certainly one of Scotland’s great mountain chains. Their ten Munro summits (yes, it was 11) linked by complex sweeping ridges, abound in wild and rocky corries. It is possible to tackle them all in one outing, but, for a reasonable length winter day, the high eastern Mamore summits of Binnein Mór and Na Gruagaichean makean excellent winter traverse, their steep-sided narrow ridges being honed to wintry knife-edge arêtes under winter conditions. The views of surrounding ranges are sensational, the high tops yielding a splendid panorama spanning the Nevis and Grey Corries area and sweeping south over the plethoraof jagged peaks that dominate Glencoe and Ballachulish. Get the ice axe and crampons out for this one, dust down those plastic boots and let’s hope the snow gods will be kind to you.
