I started this route from the Private Car park just above Hartland Quay which is free unless during summer months you need to pay to enter the Toll Road that starts at Rocket House. There is able parking at busier times next to the church in Stoke which would be a good option too. Again i dropped down on the path to the Quay and then its back up on the main trail leading to St Catherine's Tor (81m). It is possible to get up onto the top but I didn't want to hang about in the biting wind and with the rain due early afternoon. Instead I continued around to the stunning Waterfall at Spekes Mill Mouth. For those looking to continue on South over Swansford Hill, There is currently a detour in place as the footbridge has been washed away in the storm and is currently visible on the rocky beach below the waterfall. If your happy to paddle then you could cross the stream with a little caution! I have just done the section from Welcome to this point so no need to get wet feet for me! From the falls you do have the option to take a dip in the plunge pools or simply head down onto the beach. I headed back up toward Docton Mill on the lower of the two paths, Firstly because it gave me a slightly longer route and secondly it meant I stayed in the valley which was really sheltered. Once in Docton I then headed back North on a short road section past Trellick to join the Byway leading directly to Stoke from Wargery Farm. The Church of St Nectan is worth a visit and does have Public Toilets before going through its impressive swing gate. Upon leaving the Church, i picked up the footpath leading past the Coastguard cottages and out toward the Tower (Ruin) above Warren Cliff before heading back to the car park to finish.
