Cwmorthin Quarry & Moelwyn Mawr Loop - Upper Limits UK

I wanted to start this route from the Lakeside Cafe but there was no option for parking for longer than 2hrs. This is possible with permission and a donation in the tips tin! Anyway, so not to have to finish ascending, we started in the lower of the two free car parks higher up. Picking up the Snowdonia Slate Trail heading NW we climbed quickly up to Llyn Cwmorthin and into the Quarry where there is lots to explore. We continued on to Croesor Quarry before going off piste to pick up the Cambrian Way to take in the summit of Moelwyn Mawr at 770m. Having the wind against us didn't help but reaching the summit was well worth it and for me, the descent was superb, heading South down Craigysgafn to the spot height at 689m. Take your time descending from here as it would be easy to take a tumble. Once in the saddle it's easy off to Llyn Stwlan. Then there are lots of options to finish.
