Loop
A peaceful circular walk from the Demesnes in Barnard Castle to Egglestone Abbey and Abbey Bridge.
The route begins by crossing the Green Bridge and following the River Tees past the weir and the Lendings. From here, it continues through open fields before dropping down towards the old packhorse bridge over Bow Beck and the ruins of Egglestone Abbey.
After crossing Abbey Bridge, the walk returns along the quieter north bank of the Tees, following woodland paths and riverside fields back towards Barnard Castle.
There are a few gates, short road sections and some narrow, uneven paths beside the river. The ground can also become muddy after rain, and livestock may be in the fields.
