For those using public transport, the nearest bus stop is at Great Circle Road, serviced by Nashville's MTA bus routes.

Trail Navigation

The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to ensure you stay on track. The loop configuration means you'll end up back where you started, making logistics simpler.

What to Expect

The Metro Center Levee Greenway offers a mix of urban and natural landscapes. As you start your hike, you'll notice the trail runs parallel to the Cumberland River, providing scenic water views for a significant portion of the journey. The path is paved, making it suitable for walking, running, and even cycling.

Significant Landmarks

Around the 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) mark, you'll come across the Ted Rhodes Golf Course, a well-maintained public golf course that adds a touch of greenery to your hike. Continuing along, at approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 miles), you'll encounter the MetroCenter complex, a hub of commercial activity that contrasts with the natural surroundings.

Nature and Wildlife

Despite its urban setting, the trail is home to a variety of wildlife. Keep an eye out for local bird species such as herons and kingfishers, especially near the riverbanks. The levee area is also a good spot for observing small mammals and reptiles.

Historical Significance

The Cumberland River has played a crucial role in the history of Davidson County and Nashville. Historically, it served as a major transportation route for Native American tribes and later for European settlers. The levee itself is a testament to the city's efforts to manage and control the river's floodwaters, ensuring the safety and development of the surrounding areas.

Practical Tips

Given the trail's length and moderate difficulty, it's advisable to bring water and snacks. There are a few benches and rest areas along the way, but amenities are limited, so plan accordingly. The trail is open year-round, but it's best enjoyed in the spring and fall when temperatures are mild.

Whether you're a local or a visitor, the Metro Center Levee Greenway offers a unique blend of urban and natural experiences, making it a worthwhile addition to your hiking itinerary.
