Out and Back
Route: we started at a parking spot near Trenta. And walked further into the valley. Then we followed the pave to the mountain hut and then continued to the summit of Mt. Triglav. The conditions of the trail are great as I noticed. They are well maintained and the route is regularly marked by red streaks. Higher up those marks are visible almost every 5 meters. Even though the trail is marked very well keep in mind to have some backup plans on your phone downloaded or printed out with you.
Parking: If you follow the street to the marked starting point as far as it is allowed to, you will find a free parking lot. Might be full during high season I guess. We where there at after season and there were maybe 8 cars
Difficulty: The trail to the hut itself ist actually really good and quite easy to walk. It is around T2 and T3. But keep in mind it's really long and steep. About 1600hm to the hut isn't easy if you aren't experienced. The trail from the hut to steep wall of Mt. Triglav is also about T2 and T3 but also steep. The last section to the summit is often described as a via ferrata. I would disagree on that take. It's more like difficult alpine trail around T4/T4+ maybe. Some parts are secured with a steel cable and there are partly steps beaten into the rock. But keep in mind there's high-alpine and exposed terrain, you should definitely know what you are doing.
Safety: I would recommend to bring a Helmet, since the danger of rockfalls. A via ferrata set would also be good, but it's not mandatory I would say. Well i have seen some people doing it without one, it's definitely possible. Especially if you aren't experienced it's good to bring one, since it definitely lowers the risk of falling. Almost everyone on the mountain used one. However keep in mind only certain sections are teel cable secured. We also brought via ferrata sets with us, I personally used it almost never, but my mate was definitely glad to have it
Furthermore: I think this is often done as a two day trek, which is absolutely possible, but you need reservation for the hut and check if it's open at all. If you are fit enough and start early in the morning it also is doable on one day
Nerd stuff: an the hike to the hut you can perfectly see some interesting geological features, such as folds or sheeting. And we found some little trace fossils along the way. (Like two or three) Also possible to find some little cristalized Quarz (really small ones and rare). The alpine flora on the hike is also amazing. It's obviously changing constantly as you go further up.
Days planned around your pace, with somewhere to stay each night.
