Getting There

The trailhead is conveniently located near Wallowa County, Oregon. For those traveling by car, the most accessible route is via Highway 82, leading to the town of Joseph. From Joseph, follow the Wallowa Lake Highway to reach the trailhead. Public transport options are limited in this remote area, so driving is recommended. However, for those relying on public transportation, the nearest major bus station is in La Grande, Oregon, from where you can arrange a taxi or shuttle service to Joseph.

Trail Highlights

Copper Creek

The journey begins with a gradual ascent along Copper Creek, where the trail meanders through dense forests of Douglas fir and ponderosa pine. This section is known for its serene beauty, with the gentle sound of the creek accompanying hikers. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer and the occasional black bear. The first 10 km (6.2 miles) of the trail offer a moderate climb, gaining approximately 500 meters (1640 feet) in elevation.
