The trail begins with a gentle descent through a lush forest of Douglas firs and western hemlocks. At approximately 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) into the hike, you'll encounter a small wooden bridge that crosses a bubbling creek. This is a great spot to take a short break and enjoy the serene surroundings. Continuing on, the trail becomes slightly steeper as you approach the falls.
Around the 2-kilometer (1.25-mile) mark, you'll reach the main attraction: Lemolo Falls. Cascading down a rocky cliff, the falls drop approximately 30 meters (98 feet) into a picturesque pool below. The sound of the rushing water and the mist in the air create a refreshing atmosphere, perfect for taking photos or simply soaking in the natural beauty.
The area around Lemolo Falls has a rich history, originally inhabited by Native American tribes who utilized the abundant natural resources. The name "Lemolo" itself is derived from a Chinook Jargon word meaning "wild" or "untamed," reflecting the pristine nature of the landscape.
After spending some time at the falls, retrace your steps back to the trailhead. The return journey offers a different perspective of the forest and its inhabitants, making it equally enjoyable.
