The first section of the trail gently ascends through a deciduous forest, where the canopy of leaves provides shade and a habitat for various bird species. Approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) in, you'll encounter a meadow that offers a chance to spot wildlife such as white-tailed deer and wild turkeys.
Continuing on, the trail becomes more rugged, with some steep sections that contribute to the overall elevation gain. As you climb, you'll be rewarded with views of the surrounding Taconic Range. The halfway point features a notable rocky outcrop, a perfect spot to rest and enjoy a scenic overlook.
