Dochterensche Veld, Galgengoor and Warkensche Veld Loop

This is a relaxed, low-relief Achterhoek loop through a patchwork of sandy forest tracks, quiet farm lanes, and “veld” nature blocks—Dochterensche Veld, Galgengoor, and Warkensche Veld—where the landscape shifts between pine-and-oak woodland, small heathy clearings, and hedged fields. At around 15 km / 9.3 mi with roughly 100 m / 330 ft of total ascent, it stays firmly Easy, but it’s the kind of route where underfoot conditions (sand, roots, and occasional mud) matter more than steepness.

Getting to the start (car + public transport)

Because “Dochteren” is a rural area of the municipality of Lochem (Gelderland), the simplest approach is to aim for a well-known nearby access point and then follow the loop with HiiKER.

• By car: A practical anchor point close to these “veld” areas is Landgoed Velhorst (Velhorst 6, 7241 TB Lochem), which sits in the same countryside mosaic and is commonly used as a navigation reference for walks in this part of Lochem. (landgoedvelhorst.nl)
Another reliable nearby reference used for walking routes in the Klein Dochteren area is around Ploegdijk (e.g., Ploegdijk 4, 7241 SC Lochem). (fietsknoop.nl)
Parking is typically informal/small-scale in this region—use HiiKER to confirm the exact start pin and any designated pull-ins.

• By public transport: The nearest larger hub is Lochem (train/bus connections), from which you’ll usually need a local bus/taxi or a longer walk/cycle out to the rural start area. Lochem is the municipality and service center for the surrounding hamlets and countryside. (en.wikipedia.org)
If you want, tell me where you’re coming from and I’ll outline a realistic transit chain to the closest stop to your chosen start pin.

You didn’t include a specific “Hike head” location; if you share a lon/lat (or a HiiKER start link), I can translate it to the nearest recognizable road/landmark and tailor the directions precisely.

What the terrain feels like (and what to wear)

Expect a mix of: - Sandy double-tracks and compacted forest roads (easy cruising, but sand can sap energy a bit) - Narrow woodland paths with roots and occasional overgrowth in summer (long trousers help) (mooi-achterhoek.nl) - Low, damp pockets where water lingers after rain—mud is usually short-lived but can be slick on leaf litter

Footwear: light hiking shoes are fine in dry spells; after wet weather, waterproof shoes keep it comfortable. Bring a thin layer even on mild days—these woods can feel cooler and still.

The walk, section by section (approximate)

Because loops here often weave through multiple small nature blocks and connecting lanes, use HiiKER for the exact junctions; the distances below are a planning-friendly breakdown of what you’ll likely experience on a ~15 km circuit.

0–3 km / 0–1.9 mi: Settling in through fields and woodland edges
You’ll typically start on quiet lanes or broad tracks near scattered farms and hedgerows, then slip into the first wooded section. The “veld” landscapes around Lochem are known for that intimate Achterhoek feel: small parcels, tree
