Loop
“A gentle loop through Lelystad’s man‑made forests—water, reeds, and long, calm horizons.”
This easy loop is a flat, low-stress 17 km (10.6 mi) wander through Lelystad’s “new land” forests—where water engineering, sand extraction, and planned woodland planting created a landscape that feels half-park, half-wetland edge. Expect a mix of wide multi-use paths, quieter forest tracks, and long, open sightlines around water, with essentially 0 m (0 ft) of climbing—any “ups and downs” you notice are usually small man-made berms or path undulations rather than true hills.
Nearest practical start landmark / address: a very convenient place to anchor the start is Speelbos Belevenissenbos, Veldweg 98, 8231 SB Lelystad (inside the Zuigerplasbos). It’s a well-known access point with clear entry and facilities nearby. (staatsbosbeheer.nl)
Another commonly used access point for the Zuigerplas area is near Karveelbrug, 8231 Lelystad (often referenced as the Zuigerplasbos location). (visitflevoland.nl)
By car
- For the Belevenissenbos access: navigate to Veldweg 98, 8231 SB Lelystad. This is one of the most straightforward “arrive and walk” trailheads for the Zuigerplasbos side. (staatsbosbeheer.nl)
- If you prefer to start closer to shops/food, the Zuigerplasbos routes are also commonly started from the Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet area (paid parking is typical there). (visitflevoland.nl)
By public transport
- A popular public-transport start for the Zuigerplasbos is bus stop Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet, reached by bus lines 3 and 13 from Lelystad Centrum (NS station area). (visitflevoland.nl)
From there, you can stitch your loop deeper into the woods and connect toward the Jagersveld/Jagersveldbos side using HiiKER for the exact linking paths.
0.0–4.5 km (0.0–2.8 mi): Zuigerplasbos edges—water, reeds, and park-like clearings
Early on, the character is defined by the Zuigerplas and its surrounding green belt: open lawns/clearings, clusters of trees, and reed margins that create broad views across water. This area was intentionally shaped for recreation, so you’ll often find the walking feels “spacious” rather than enclosed. (visitflevoland.nl)
Look and listen for small songbirds in the shrubby forest edges; in warmer months, the flowerier margins can be lively with butterflies. (visitflevoland.nl)
4.5–9.5 km (2.8–5.9 mi): Deeper woodland corridors—quieter tracks and long straight lines
As you leave the most park-like lakeside feel, the route typically transitions into more continuous woodland. Lelystad’s city forests were planted and managed
