Loop
“A gentle woodland loop where an open-air theatre gives way to quiet tracks and reed-fringed waters.”
This is a short, mostly flat woodland-and-ven loop of about 6 km (3.7 mi) with essentially 0 m (0 ft) of climbing—ideal when you want an easy walk with lots of variety packed into a small distance: an outdoor theatre tucked into the trees, quiet forest tracks, and the open water and wetland edges around Langven. Underfoot is typically a mix of compact forest path, sandy stretches, and (depending on season) damp or muddy sections near low-lying ground.
The most practical “pin” for the start is Openluchttheater De Hunnebergen, Piet Hendrikxpad, 5575 XC Luyksgestel (North Brabant, Netherlands). ([visitbrabant.com](https://www.visitbrabant.com/en/locations/128507632/openluchttheater-de-hunnebergen?utm_source=openai))
By public transport: Luyksgestel is a small border village; public transport usually means a train to a larger hub (often Eindhoven or nearby towns) and then a regional bus toward Luyksgestel, finishing with a short walk to the forest edge and the Piet Hendrikxpad access. For the most reliable, day-specific routing, check the trip plan in your local transit app and then load the start point in HiiKER so your walking approach and the loop itself are in one place.
1.0–3.0 km (0.6–1.9 mi): quiet Kempen woodland The middle portion is classic Kempen scenery: straight and gently curving forest tracks through conifer stands with patches of mixed woodland. The walking is uncomplicated, but pay attention at junctions where multiple sandy tracks intersect—this is where having the loop loaded on HiiKER helps you stay on the intended circuit without second-guessing every crossing.
3.0–4.5 km (1.9–2.8 mi): Langven—water, reeds, and wet edges As you near Langven, the landscape subtly changes: you’ll notice more open sightlines, wetter ground, and vegetation that signals higher moisture—reeds, rushes, and boggy margins in places. After rain, the lowest sections can hold water and become slick; waterproof shoes aren’t mandatory in dry spells, but they’re a comfort upgrade in wetter months.
Wildlife is often most active around the ven edges—look and listen for waterbirds and small woodland birds moving between cover and open water
