Starting near Baltimore County, Maryland, this 4 km (2.5 miles) loop trail offers a delightful mix of natural beauty and moderate challenge. With no significant elevation gain, it’s accessible to a wide range of hikers, though it’s rated as medium difficulty due to some uneven terrain and potential muddy patches.
To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transportation. If driving, set your GPS to Cromwell Valley Park, located at 2002 Cromwell Bridge Rd, Parkville, MD 21234. There is ample parking available at the park. For those using public transport, the nearest bus stop is at Cromwell Bridge Rd & Satyr Hill Rd, serviced by the MTA Maryland bus routes. From the bus stop, it's a short walk to the park entrance.

The area around Cromwell Valley Park has a rich history. The land was once part of a large estate owned by the Cromwell family in the 18th century. Remnants of old farm buildings and stone walls can still be seen along the trail, offering a glimpse into the region’s agricultural past.
In addition to birds and amphibians, the park is home to a variety of mammals such as white-tailed deer, red foxes, and raccoons. Early morning or late afternoon hikes increase your chances of wildlife sightings.
The trail is mostly dirt with some rocky sections. After rain, parts of the trail can become muddy, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Always carry water, a basic first aid kit, and a map or GPS device like HiiKER. Cell phone reception is generally good, but it’s always wise to inform someone of your hiking plans.
This loop trail offers a wonderful mix of natural beauty, wildlife, and a touch of history, making it a rewarding hike for those looking to explore the scenic landscapes near Baltimore County.
