“A brief hillside path beneath Little Sugar Loaf.”
This is a very short, easy access walk on the slopes of Little Sugar Loaf in County Wicklow. At 1.1 km / 0.7 mi with 15 m / 49 ft of climbing and 144 m / 472 ft of descent, it works well as a quick link path or a brief outing with open mountain views. The route reaches a highest point of 323 m / 1,059 ft and takes about 15 minutes at a steady pace.
The walk begins at Baby Sugar Trail and follows a short point-to-point line on the hillside below Little Sugar Loaf. Although the route is brief, it starts beside the mountain itself, whose summit stands at 342 m and gives this section of the walk a clear upland feel. With very little ascent overall, this is more of a descending access route than a summit climb.
The ground here is straightforward by mountain standards, and the easy grading reflects the short distance and modest climb. Even so, this is still open hillside rather than a paved promenade, so sturdy footwear is useful, especially after wet weather when grass and earth can turn slippery. The route is best treated as a quick hill path where care is still needed underfoot.
The trail lies in the Sugarloaf area in County Wicklow. The wider Sugarloaf walking area is commonly approached from local parking near the mountain, and the area is also served by Bus Éireann route 133 through Kilmacanogue. Rail travellers can use Wicklow station and continue by road transport toward the Sugarloaf area.
Little Sugar Loaf is a distinct Wicklow hill rising to 342 m / 1,122 ft. Its compact shape makes it a noticeable landmark, and even a short route on its flank can give broad views across the surrounding countryside on a clear day.
Because the walk is so short, it is best suited to being combined with other paths in the Sugarloaf area or used as a quick access leg. Wind and rain can feel stronger than expected on exposed ground, so a waterproof layer is worth carrying even for a 15-minute outing. HiiKER navigation is useful here, especially where short hill paths meet other tracks on the mountain.
