The walk starts on West Street in Tallow and follows a loop on quiet local roads and country lanes around the town. The route shown for Ramp Boreen circles out from the built-up area, runs through open farmland on the western side, then returns along the river side and back into town. Its loop format keeps navigation straightforward and makes it a handy choice for a quick leg-stretcher or an easy evening walk.
This is a low-level route with very little ascent or descent, gaining 13 m / 43 ft and losing 8 m / 26 ft over the full circuit. The easy grading reflects the gentle profile and short distance rather than any remote or mountainous terrain. Expect a mix of town street, local road and country-lane walking, so comfortable walking shoes are usually enough in normal conditions.
The trail begins in Tallow, with the mapped route also associated locally with the creamery side of town near the R634. For anyone arriving without a car, Tallow is served by Local Link Route 364, which links the town with Lismore, Fermoy and nearby settlements. Drivers approaching from the west of County Waterford can reach Tallow easily from the N72.
Although short, the loop gives a pleasant sense of Tallow’s rural setting. The route passes close to the Glenaboy River and local walking information for Ramp Boreen highlights views towards the River Bride as well as the ruins of nearby Lisfinny Castle. The open stretches on the western side of the loop add a more countryside feel before the walk returns to the town streets.
