“A gentle woodland loop in a lakeside forest park.”
Siúlán McBride - McBride's Walk is a short easy loop near Monaghan, ideal for a quick leg-stretch or a gentle family outing. The route covers 0.8 km / 0.5 mi with 15 m / 49 ft of climbing and 28 m / 92 ft of descent, reaching a highest point of 126 m / 413 ft. Most walkers will be around in about 10 minutes.
The walk starts at Bluebell Walk in Monaghan and forms a compact loop. With only modest height change, it suits walkers looking for an undemanding outing rather than a long hike.
The start is in Rossmore Forest Park, around 3 km south of Monaghan town. The park has a car park and visitor facilities including toilets and picnic areas, making access straightforward for a short walk. Monaghan town is the nearest base for shops, food and other services before or after the walk.
Rossmore Forest Park is a broad area of mixed woodland and parkland with several lakes, so even this brief route sits within one of County Monaghan's best-known outdoor spaces. The wider park includes remnants of the old Rossmore estate, and the woods are noted for deciduous trees such as oak, ash and beech, along with conifers and ornamental planting including rhododendrons.
This is a very short forest walk, so ordinary walking shoes are usually enough in dry weather, though paths in woodland can become damp or muddy after rain. Because the route is so brief, HiiKER navigation is still useful for staying on the intended loop among the other signed walks nearby.
