“A gentle loop through wetlands and a community-shaped eco park.”
Killeedy Eco Park - Trail A is a short easy loop in County Limerick, covering 1.0 km / 0.6 mi with just 7 m / 23 ft of climbing. It takes about 12 minutes to walk, making it a gentle option for a quick leg-stretch, a family outing or an accessible introduction to the wider park. The route stays low throughout, with a highest point of 97 m / 319 ft, and circles through a compact section of this eco park.
This is a loop route, so it returns neatly to its starting point without retracing the whole walk. The map shows a circuit around the park’s internal paths, passing close to wetland features before curving through open ground and back to the entrance side. With only 6 m / 20 ft of descent and very little overall height change, the walking is straightforward and suits a relaxed pace.
Killeedy Eco Park was created as a biodiversity-focused community space on the site of a former industrial facility. The wider park includes wetlands and reed beds, woodland planting, wildflower areas, a natural amphitheatre, community gardens and an outdoor learning space. More than 7,000 native trees have been planted here, helping turn the site into a small but varied wildlife habitat.
The usual starting point for the park trails is the eco park car park, making this a simple choice for visitors arriving by car. Killeedy is a rural parish rather than a large transport hub, so most walkers will find driving the most practical way to reach the trailhead.
The short distance and minimal ascent make this one of the easiest walks in the area. It is best suited to casual walking rather than a full hike, and works well for children, anyone fitting in a brief outdoor break, or walkers combining it with time in the rest of the park. Even on a very short route, sturdy footwear is still useful around wetland edges and after rain.
The eco park is designed as both a recreation space and a living environmental project. Its reed beds form part of a natural wastewater treatment system, while the mix of woodland, meadow and wetland supports birds and other small wildlife. The park is also used as a learning space, with features intended for education, community events and nature-based activities.
